School Choice

School Choice

Seattle Public Schools students are initially assigned to a designated attendance area elementary, middle, or high school based on each student's home address. To view the attendance area schools for your address, use the Address Lookup Tool.

Students may apply for assignment to a different school (or program) through School Choice. It is not guaranteed that students will be assigned to the school (or program) of their choice; students are only guaranteed assignment to their attendance area school. Additional information about option schools, including individual GeoZone maps, is available on the School Directory webpage.  Click here to download the districtwide GeoZone map for 2017-18.

To view current and next year assignment information using the Assignment Lookup Tool, you need the student's identification number and birth date. Once a student receives a choice assignment, they are generally continued in that choice assignment through the highest grade served by that school.

The results of Open Enrollment are now available through the Assignment Lookup Tool.

Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment is the annual period when school choice forms may first be submitted for the next school year. Open Enrollment for the 2017-18 school year ended on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017. All forms received during Open Enrollment are processed at the same time and are eligible for applicable tiebreakers. The results of Open Enrollment will be available starting April 17, 2017.

School choice forms for the 2017-18 school year may be submitted until May 31, but forms submitted after Open Enrollment (after Feb. 24) are late, do not receive tiebreaker priorities, and are much less likely to result in your student being assigned to the school (or program) of your choice. Check out the Open Enrollment Fast Facts page for more information.
