Daniel Bagley Students Raised $6,000 for Sudan
Fourth and fifth graders at Daniel Bagley Elementary School are winners of the of the grand prize drawing for the non-profit organization Water for South Sudan's (WFSS) Iron Giraffe Challenge. Students and their families raised more than $6,000 for WFSS, which drills wells to provide clean drinking water for Sudanese families.
The class became inspired after reading the book, A Long Walk to Water, which tells the story of WFSS founder, Salva Dut.
In 1985, Dut, then just 11 years old, was one of the 17,000 "Lost Boys of Sudan" who fled Sudan during that country's two-decade civil war. Dut will travel from South Sudan to visit Bagley Elementary in June.
