    District and Seattle Council PTSA Budget Gap Meetings

    You are invited to attend a community meeting focused on next year’s projected budget gap. The district’s budget office will be presenting the current budget challenges and soliciting feedback. Seattle Council PTSA leadership will be sharing information on how to get involved.

    Background

    Unless the Legislature takes action to address school funding, the district has a projected deficit of $74 million for the 2017-18 school year. We don’t anticipate, based on the Legislature’s past practice that they will pass an approved budget until June 2017 and this will be highly disruptive for our schools, staff and students.

    The district will need to plan for the worst-case scenario in order to perform essential school and department planning for the 2017-18 school year. Your feedback is important as the district makes decisions. You can find additional information regarding the projected gap on the budget webpage.
