Work is almost complete on fixing street flooding near the future site of Cascadia Elementary and Robert Eagle Staff Middle School which means students and parents will have a safer, dryer walk to school when the schools open in Fall 2017.
Construction on the project involves installing new drains and pipes leading that will carry water from nearby Licton Springs Park underneath the schools to Green Lake. The work is being done by Seattle Public Schools, but will be reimbursed by Seattle Public Utilities.
It's one of several capital projects around the district funded by the Buildings, Technology and Academics/Athletics III (BTA III) and the Building Excellence IV (BEX IV) levies.
The upcoming Buildings, Technology, Academics/Athletics IV (BTA IV) and Operations Levy will appear on the February 2016 ballot.
