    Counseling & Guidance Mission Statement

    Seattle Public Schools counseling program will provide comprehensive, developmental counseling services that address the academic, career and social/emotional development of all students. School counselors, in partnership with other school staff, families and the community, will facilitate support systems to ensure that all students in Seattle Public Schools have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills necessary for college, careers and post-secondary life choices.(School Board Policy 2140 and 2140SP)

    Comprehensive K-12 Guidance and School Counseling Program

    Seattle Public Schools Comprehensive Program should include:

    • Services and supports for students, families and staff
    • Be based on specific academic, social/emotional and career development goals and student competencies
    • Utilize data that measures academic, social/emotional and career development and college readiness for program improvement
    • Include on-going professional development that is relevant to school counselors
    • Expect that Professional School Counselors are engaged in activities described as appropriate in the ASCA model

    Seattle Public School Counselors will offer as a part of their Comprehensive K-12 Program:

    • Guidance and School Counseling Core Curriculum
    • Individual Student Planning
    • Responsive Services
    • System Support
