Singer and songwriter, Taylor Swift, recently surprised the Seattle Symphony Orchestra with an unexpected gift of $50,000.

Swift explained she donated the money after she was inspired by a recording of John Luther Adams’ Grammy-winning song, “Become Ocean” which was commissioned by the Symphony. Swift said the composition reminded her of attending her local symphony with her grandmother.

The donation is earmarked for two Symphony programs including Link Up, which is a music-education program for elementary students. It’s a program many SPS students enjoy through the district’s arts programs.
