Safer Routes to School for Mercer Students

Safer Routes to School for Mercer Students

Large cracks, uneven, covered in mud. Those used to be the conditions many Mercer International Middle School students faced on their way to school.

Now, Seattle Public Schools, Seattle's Department of Transportation (SDOT) and Seattle Parks and Recreation created a safer walkway for students.

It's all part of a partner program called, Safe Routes, designed to improved student access to schools, to encourage more kids to walk and bike to school which is healthier for them.

So far, SDOT has completed Safe Routes to more than a dozen Seattle schools. Mayor Ed Murray is proposing $5.8 Million to support Safe Routes at an additional nine schools this year.
