The first annual Seattle Public Schools Admissions Fair provided one-stop shopping for parents and guardians seeking information about how to register students during open enrollment.
More than 200 attendees joined Seattle Public Schools staff at Mercer Middle School on Saturday, January 30, to learn about everything from option schools and special education to health services and school meals.
The event, staffed by interpreters who supported non-English speakers, aimed to help every family through the process—answering questions and confirming open enrollment processes and procedures.
“It was a great opportunity for staff from across the district to meet parents face to face and listen to their questions and concerns,” said Faauu Manu, Seattle Public Schools Manager Enrollment Manager. “It helped us gain a better understanding of how to serve our families and students better.”
Staff from each of the district’s 17 option K-8 and high school schools were on hand to help answer questions and offer insights to what makes their schools unique. The Seattle Skills Center, a district program that provides tuition-free, hands-on career training for SPS high school students, shared the fun ways students could try out high demand careers with their program while earning high school credit.
The information table for Advanced Learning’s Highly Capable Services was a big hit. Advanced Learning staff, with in-depth knowledge about the Spectrum and Highly Capable Cohort services, was on hand to discuss the programs and how the new open enrollment timelines affects parent decisions.
