Alki Elementary student reading

Want a voice in the adoption of reading materials for our elementary students? We are looking for parents and community members to join our adoption committee. Apply by Wednesday, March 2.

Seattle Public Schools is initiating an adoption process for instructional materials to support reading in grades kindergarten through 5. The yearlong process will include two rounds, with a field test in between.

You’ll need to be available for at least eight meetings this spring, and several more in the fall. If that’s too much time to commit, consider joining our Instructional Materials Committee instead. The IMC meets just 3-4 times a year, usually in the evening, and provides oversight for our adoption committees.

  1. To join the English Language Arts K-5 Adoption Committee, visit our adoption web page and download an application.

  2. To join the Instructional Materials Committee, email ecaldwell@seattleschools.org

The goal is to have elementary reading materials selected and ready for use by the 2017-18 school year.
