Seattle Public Schools Teams Up with Community Partners on RULER

Several Seattle Public Schools community partners recently joined the district during a training session on the RULER Approach curriculum in order to better serve students' emotional needs during the school day.

RULER stands for Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating emotions.

Developed by Dr. Marc Brackett from the Yale Center of Emotional Intelligence, the RULER Approach arms teachers, staff, and students with tools to understand and regulate their emotions and to consider and empathize with how others are feeling.

Dr. Brackett, who works directly with SPS to implement RULER, recently teamed-up with entertainer, Lady Gaga and her Born This Way Foundation, to delve into the emotional issues students face.
