Surrounded by lawmakers, members of the community, and Seattle Public Schools’ staff, Governor Jay Inslee signed the “Opportunity Gap” Bill into law, Wednesday, March 30, 2016, inside the library of Aki Kurose Middle School.
Governor Inslee selected Aki Kurose for the historic bill signing after the school’s principal, Mia Williams, was named the “2016 Washington State Middle School Principal of the Year” by the Association of Washington School Principals.
Williams earned the prestigious state award because of her tireless work to close opportunity gaps for her students and her passion to provide exceptional learning experiences.
Washington’s new “Opportunity Gap” Law will extend Williams’, and other Seattle school district teachers’ hard work, across the state, in order to further the district's goal for equitable education for all students.
