The community is invited to an open house to review language arts materials being considered for adoption in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Families, staff and the community may attend the open house from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, May 9, in the second-floor professional library at the John Stanford Center.
A wide variety of materials submitted for teaching reading and writing will be on display for examination and feedback. The feedback is essential to the process of selecting the best materials to recommend for the second round of the review and field-test process.
Seattle Public Schools staff will be available to support participants. Translated feedback forms and interpreters in our top five languages (Chinese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese) will be available.
The community may also review materials online and at the John Stanford Center between May 2 and May 20. More information, including online access codes and feedback forms, will be available on the SPS ELA K-5 Adoption webpage starting May 2.
An adoption committee, comprising teachers, parents and community members, was formed in March to lead the process of narrowing and recommending materials. If approved by the Seattle School Board, new textbooks and materials will be put into use during the 2017-18 school year.
