Red Nose Day, City Year Helping SPS Build a Brighter Future for Students

Red Nose Day is an annual fundraising campaign to end the cycle of child poverty and ensure a healthy future for all children. It supports programs that give back to the community – programs that help kids feel safe, educated, and empowered.

City Year Seattle, a Red Nose Day-funded program, is positively impacting the lives of students at Wing Luke Elementary and other Seattle Public Schools to provide small groups for students in math and literacy, social emotional learning activities, and enrichment activities.

City Year Student Success Coaches like Dana Washington, Sarah Brown and Meghan Muller help students who may need a little extra help.

“It benefits students because it enables them to have somebody that’s a “near or peer” relationship,” said Dana Washington, a City Year worker. “So, it’s not their teacher, but it’s somebody that’s going to be in the classroom with them every day, all day for the entire school year to support them in their learning.”
