ELA Instructional Materials Adoption
K-5 English Language Arts Instructional Materials Adoption
Seattle Public Schools will be choosing new digital reading and writing instructional materials for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. The materials include fiction and non-fiction books, worksheets, and online resources for students and staff.
This work is essential because our current reading program license is ending, and the materials we currently use are no longer being produced. This also gives us the opportunity to use the latest research on how children learn to read.
The process will begin at the end of May with a final decision presented to the school board in March 2026.
We Want Your Feedback
We are creating a team to help choose these new materials. We want a committee made up of teachers, school leaders, families, and community members that represent the diverse needs across our district. The committee will work together to pick high-quality reading materials, helping ensure the materials work well for all students.
We encourage anyone interested to apply. Applications must be submitted by May 2. Please note: You must be able to attend all meetings (up to 12 meeting days).
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about what will best meet the needs of our students. If you have any questions, please contact Kathleen Vasquez, ELA Program Manager – Adoption Coordinator, at kavasquez@seattleschools.org.
