Who designed the new school building?

The district hired NAC Architecture to design the new school building. A School Design Advisory Team (SDAT) provided input into the design. The SDAT is comprised of school administrators, teachers, and parents as well as district staff and the design team.

When will the new school building open?

  The new school is scheduled to open Fall 2023.

Where will students go to school during construction?

Kimball Elementary will be temporarily located at Van Asselt School at 7201 Beacon Ave. S. The school will move when school gets out in June 2021. Students will start school in Fall 2021 at Van Asselt. Transportation will be provided take students to school since the temporary location isn’t in the Kimball walk zone.

Will all students move into the new school?

That is currently the plan. However, there are students who will finish elementary school before moving back to the new Kimball Elementary School.

Will there be more students when the school opens?

Yes. A boundary change was approved that makes the Kimball attendance area larger. Some students that are now in the Maple attendance area will move to Kimball in 2023.

How many students will fit in the new school?

The school is being built to hold up to 650 students.

How big is the new school?

The proposed 3-story replacement school building will be approximately 95,000 square feet. This fits the district’s standard size for new elementary schools.

Will the neighborhood be able to use the playground and recreational spaces? 

Yes, during non-school hours.
