    Preschool in Seattle Public Schools

    Early Learning Vision: At Seattle Public Schools our vision is for every child to experience a quality, cohesive and joyful learning experience from preschool through fifth grade that will provide the strong foundation needed to succeed in school and life. Our programs offer children and families opportunity and access to classrooms and schools with a positive climate, and teachers who are ready and able to meet their needs by articulating and implementing high-quality learning environments across Pre-K-5th grade.

    Seattle Preschool Program

    Head Start

    A federally funded child development program for eligible families serving three- and four-year-old children. For information on programs offered at each school. Read more about the Head Start program.

    Developmental and Special Education Preschool

    For children age 3-5 determined eligible with a disability that impacts educational progress and who are in need of specially designed instruction. For information on programs offered at each school. Read more about Developmental Preschool.

    EEU

    Seattle Public Schools contracts with the Experimental Education Unit (EEU) at University of Washington for a limited number of special education slots to provide Developmental Preschool and SPP Plus services.

    Who is eligible to apply for EEU?

    • Seattle Public Schools preschool students with a current IEP requiring placement in developmental preschool or SPP Plus are eligible to apply for preschool assignment at the EEU.
    • Preschool students rising to kindergarten who require a special education program placement in Access, Focus, SEL, or Distinct programs are eligible to be selected for kindergarten assignment at the EEU.
    • Students must be 3-years old by May 31 and have an IEP.
