Equal Access is the Law
In addition to the day-to-day importance of web and technology access for people with disabilities, it is the law. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Washington State’s Law Against Discrimination prohibit discrimination against people with disabilities.
People with disabilities must be afforded equal access, regardless of their disability, to programs and services that are provided by the district.
Equal access and nondiscrimination require that the district:
- Ensures that communications with people with disabilities are as effective as communications with others,
- Makes reasonable modifications of policies and practices, and
- Removes communication barriers to ensure an equal opportunity to access website content, software and equipment.
Seattle Public Schools is committed to making sure its technology, including websites, content pages, and software programs meet guidelines for equitable access and recognized accessibility standards.
