Hello Students and Families,

I am writing on behalf of Children of the Setting Sun Productions (CSSP), an Indigenous-led nonprofit organization dedicated to storytelling and cultural preservation. We are excited to invite you to participate in our upcoming event, Netse Mot: One People Gathering – One Heart, One Mind, in partnership with TPN Events.

Event Overview:

  • Event Name: Netse Mot: One People Gathering – One Heart, One Mind
  • Date: October 22, 2024
  • Location: Paramount Theater, Seattle, WA
  • Presented by: Children of the Setting Sun Productions (CSSP)
  • In Partnership with: John Vadino, TPN Events

Event Vision: Netse Mot: One People Gathering is designed to be an inclusive and transformative experience that celebrates the richness of Indigenous cultures while fostering mutual understanding among diverse communities. Our goal is to amplify Indigenous voices, promote cultural healing, and cultivate a sense of belonging and respect for all.

Why We’re Reaching Out to Students: We are excited to invite middle and high school students to join us for a free matinee program on October 22, 2024, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. This program offers an engaging cultural journey that emphasizes education, inclusivity, and respect for diversity. With seating available for 2,807 guests, the Paramount Theater presents a unique opportunity for students to come together in a shared experience of cultural appreciation.

Matinee Program Highlights:

  • Spotlight on Indigenous Author: Sasha LaPointe (Upper Skagit and Nooksack), sharing stories of gratitude, generosity, and respect.
  • Storytelling Speakers: Sammy Gensaw III (Yurok Native), a leader in environmental and cultural preservation, bringing Indigenous culture to life through dynamic storytelling.
  • Live Performances: Traditional drumming, singing, and dancing by the Coast Salish Canoe Families, Black Lodge Singers, and Notorious Cree.
  • Indigenous Actor/Comedian/Activist: Dallas Goldtooth (Dakota), known for his work on Reservation Dogs, will share humor and stories that resonate with today’s youth.

Purpose and Impact: Netse Mot is a Coast Salish phrase meaning “One heart, one mind.” Our One People gathering emphasizes unity among all individuals. This event aligns with Washington State’s “Since Time Immemorial” curriculum, and aims to foster cultural understanding and appreciation among young students. By participating, students will gain valuable insights into Indigenous cultures, which is essential in promoting inclusivity and unity within our communities.

How Families Can Help: We encourage families to share this unique opportunity with their students and support their school’s participation. Schools can register to bring groups, and we hope as many students as possible can attend.

This is a wonderful chance for students to engage with powerful Indigenous stories, live performances, and cultural teachings, making lasting connections with the values of gratitude, generosity, and respect.

In addition to our free student matinee program, we warmly invite you and your friends and family to join us for our Netse Mot: One People Gathering evening event on October 22. Access $20 presale tickets using the code netsemot2024

We’d love to have you and yours with us!
