Seattle Public Schools Family Partnerships Takes on Changes to Better Serve Students and Families

During the 2017-18 school year, the Family Partnerships department is undertaking exciting changes to ensure our district is serving students and families well.

Seattle Public Schools recognizes that families are the first and foremost teachers of their children. Our district values our partnership with families to ensure that every child receives what is needed to be successful in life.

To this end, our Family Partnerships Department has two major areas that we are focusing on this school year — rebuilding sustainable family partnership systems and engaging a representative task force to develop a multiyear plan.

Re-envisioning Family Partnerships with a Systems and Landscape Analysis

This year, we are partnering with the Institute for Educational Leadership to conduct a thorough review of our current family partnership systems to identify our strengths and opportunities for growth. The review process began with a survey of stakeholders and their representatives including families, community organizations, parent organizations and Seattle Public Schools engagement staff in November.

This spring, we received a comprehensive report and a series of recommendations from the Institute for Educational Leadership. These recommendations will support the task force—enabling our communities to help guide our family partnership plan—and will help the district review our superintendent procedure for family engagement 4129SPPDF icon.

Help Us Improve: Join Our Family Partnerships Task Force

The task force will develop our district plan for family engagement. It will also engage communities and gather feedback on their work related to school improvement through family engagement.

We hope that you will consider being a part of this task force or share with others who you believe will help represent the diversity of Seattle Public Schools communities. We are accepting applications to join this critical group until Monday, Feb. 19. Please visit our Family Partnerships Task Force webpage for the online application and more information.

Thank you for partnering with us to give every child an opportunity to exercise their intellect, social and emotional well-being and creativity! They hold our collective future in their hands. We must work collaboratively to ensure every student is known for their unique story, strength and need.
