Seattle Public Schools, United Way of King County, and Seattle Sounders FC are teaming-up to make sure every student eats breakfast every morning because students who eat breakfast do better in school.

The campaign, started by United Way of King County, is aptly named the BreakfastChallenge because its purpose is to challenge schools everywhere to make sure every student has access to breakfast.

To drive home the point, Seattle Sounders midfielder, Cristian Roldan, visited West Seattle Elementary School where he talked with students about how important it is to fuel up on healthy foods every morning.

Roldan also put on a quick clinic on juggling a soccer ball. His challenge was to try and juggle 54 times in a row without letting the ball hit the ground. Roldan noted that 54 was the same number of goals he scored in his senior year in high school.

Programs like this are part of the district’s mission spelled out in the 2013-18 Seattle Public Schools Strategic Plan: Every Student. Every Classroom. Every Day.
