On September 3, Greg Narver will become the new Chief Legal Counsel at Seattle Public Schools, reporting directly to Superintendent Juneau.

In this cabinet-level role, Greg will lead a team of legal professionals in providing advice and representation to the District on all legal matters, and will support student learning, District efficiency, and the strategic objectives of the Superintendent’s Leadership Team. He will serve as the chief legal adviser to the Board of Directors and the Superintendent, and as Assistant Secretary to the Board.

Greg grew up in Seattle and attended Seattle Public Schools, graduating from Garfield High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Washington School of Law.

Beginning his legal career with the Seattle law firm of Culp, Guterson & Grader, Greg worked in private practice in Seattle for many years. He also served as counsel to the House Ethics Committee in Washington, DC. He began working at the Seattle City Attorney’s Office in 2006, and for the past four years served as Chief of its Civil Division. As Division Chief, Greg managed a large team of in-house attorneys and legal support staff, and advised the Mayor, City Council and City departments on a variety of legal, policy, and regulatory issues. He also maintained an active litigation practice, including arguing cases before the Washington Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

His legal experience, along with his knowledge of City of Seattle government and Seattle Public Schools, make Greg a strong addition to the District staff.
