SPS Engineers in the Making Are Awarded Scholarships for Their Education
Seven Seattle Public Schools students from five high schools received the surprise of a lifetime when they were awarded $40,000 scholarships toward their education.
The Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) Scholarship is awarded to students who plan to study computer science or engineering after high school. The prize comes with a paid internship at Amazon after their freshman year of college.
Students, teachers and principals convened at Amazon’s Drone Delivery Facility where students explored careers of the future available to them in their own backyard. They also heard from Amazon leaders on exploring science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career pathways. After the reveal, the group heard from industry experts and local policy leaders.
Superintendent Brent Jones congratulated the students and offered them well wishes moving forward.
The 2024 AFE Scholarship recipients are:

- ️Imara Wangia – Garfield
- ️Salsabila Abu – Garfield
- ️Cameron Fernandes – Lincoln
This is the second year in a row the district has had seven AFE Scholarship recipients.
Amazon Future Engineer is a childhood-to-career initiative designed to inspire and educate millions of students each year from underrepresented and historically underserved communities to build life-changing skills that leverage computer science and coding to bring their dreams to life. Recipients were chosen based on a variety of criteria, including their academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, and financial need.
