Seattle Public Schools Launches New Well-Resourced Schools Webpage

The online resource shares key information about school consolidation plans, timelines, racial equity analysis, and FAQs

Seattle – Seattle Public Schools (SPS) launched a new Well-Resourced Schools webpage today that shares two school consolidation plans the district is considering. Each plan will help ensure our schools are the right size and have the resources needed for students in preschool through fifth grade to succeed.

  • Proposed Option A: Operates 52 attendance-area elementary schools. This option closes 21 elementary and K-8 schools.
  • Proposed Option B: Operates 56 schools, including attendance-area elementary and one K-8 school per region. This option closes 17 schools.

“At SPS, we want to create a system of schools that are durable and healthy,” said Well-Resourced Schools Officer Marni Campbell. “Our plan for well-resourced schools will allow for all SPS students to receive world-class education that meets their diverse needs in their neighborhood schools.”

The webpage allows visitors to explore the details of each plan, including which schools are being considered for consolidation in each region.

Also included on the webpage are criteria used for these decisions, like building conditions, learning environments, school capacity, and enrollment trends.

SPS is also planning to host a series of community meetings, so everyone has the opportunity to understand the proposals and share feedback.
